Public Works Director

The Town of New Gloucester, Maine is accepting applications for a full-time hands-on Public Works Director. The Public Works Director reports to the Town Manager. The Public Works Director oversees the planning, management, and operations of our Public Works Department. This position is responsible for supervising employees, managing the maintenance and repair of 75 miles of roads, overseeing the upkeep of equipment, and ensuring the proper maintenance of municipal buildings and grounds.

Qualifications:

  • Proven management or supervisory experience in public works, construction, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of road maintenance, heavy equipment, and facility upkeep.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a similar position.
  • Advanced training or certification in public works or a related field is preferred.
  • Class B Maine driver’s license is required. 
  • Pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol tests required with job offer.
