Wastewater Treatment Operator

Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF)

The Orono, Maine WPCF is currently seeking applicants for the entry level position of Wastewater Operator

The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation of the wastewater treatment facility,

pump stations, collection system and solids handling facilities.

Duties would include but not limited to the following.

● Operating dewatering equipment and transporting sludge

● Perform routine Laboratory duties for process control

● Assist in the maintenance and repair of plant and pump station equipment

● Assist in the cleaning and maintenance activities of the sanitary sewer collection system

● Assist in the clearing of vegetation from sewer right of ways and other ground
maintenance

● Will be required to handle on-call duties with other staff members on a rotating basis

● Perform other duties that may be assigned

Knowledge and Skills

● Ability to communicate effectively and be respectful with the general public

● Mechanical knowledge of machinery and equipment

● Knowledge of basic computer applications

● Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff

members

● Ability to work safely with equipment and machinery in an industrial setting

This position will require the applicant to obtain a class B Commercial Drivers License within 6

months of date of hire and a State of Maine Wastewater Certification grade 1 is required within

12 months of hire. Facility work schedule is 4 day / 40 hour per week (10hr days)

Pay Range for this position is $ 22.25 to $23.50 depending on experience.
