Cumberland County - Dispatchers (FT & PT)

Picturesque Cumberland County is the State’s most populous county having a population of 289,977. Its largest city is Portland and the county geographically extends from Casco Bay to the Lakes Region. Cumberland County has the second largest body of water in the state, Sebago Lake, which provides numerous recreational opportunities. The County is the economic and industrial center of the state, having a strong corporate presence of major domestic and international companies.  The County has over 400 dedicated employees, all focused on providing the best customer service to the County residents.  Cumberland County is represented by five elected county commissioners and the county manager runs the daily operations.

JOB PURPOSE:  
Assists the public by taking both emergency and non-emergency calls for service and dispatch that information to the proper responding fire departments, emergency medical services or law enforcement agencies in the county as required. Training will be 40 hours/week for 18 weeks. Full-time position with full benefits available, as well as a 20-hour/week position with limited benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: High School diploma or equivalent, computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office/Word, knowledge of county and towns geographic layout. Must successfully complete the following within one year of employment: terminal operator control course, CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatching Course. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm and maintain control in stressful situations. Preferred: Minimum one (1) year in the public safety field and previous experience in radio communications desired.

Candidates must successfully complete Criticall exam, background investigation and polygraph examination.
