What is an Athenian Dialogue?
Athenian Dialogues explore leadership principles and practice, drawing on the insights contained in a book that all participants have read. Dialogues are conversations in which we have the opportunity to share our experience and understanding as it relates to the ideas of the author and the relevance of those ideas to their public leadership role.
Read the book, participate in class and complete assessment – earn 3 CMC or MMC points.
About our book:
The Women
“In war, she meets—and becomes one of—the lucky, the brave, the broken, and the lost.” In Part One, the author, Kristin Hannah builds on the extreme challenges for the young protagonist, Nurse Frankie serving her country in Vietnam to follow her brother’s footsteps. Part Two is returning home: the contrast of her parents' older generation and the anti-war protestors and media challenging the government. The book dives deep into Frankie’s psyche, her toughness, her resilience, her “can do it” attitude. But it also brings up the other attributes of a cultural disparity between generations, race and gender discrimination.
