The Town of Kennebunk is seeking an experienced, creative, and dynamic full-time Town Planner for the Community Development Division. The Town Planner reports directly to the Community Development Director or designee and is a team member of the Community Development Division that includes Planning, Code Enforcement, Community Engagement, and Social Services.

The Town Planner is responsible for municipal planning functions in the Town and works closely with Town leadership, staff, and community stakeholders in providing professional guidance and management of the Town’s planning efforts.

Position Requirements

Essential duties and responsibilities include providing support to and attending night meetings of the Planning Board and Site Plan Review Board; advising and consulting other boards regarding zoning and planning issues; coordinating plan reviews with other municipal departments; and reviewing and preparing land use and zoning amendments. The Town Planner is also responsible for identifying and preparing grant proposals as well as assisting in the implementation of grants.

A Bachelor’s Degree in planning, community or economic development, public administration or related field plus three years of progressively responsible experience in a complex municipal environment, or any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience is required. A Master’s Degree in Planning or a related field is desirable, but not required. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities include thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal land use planning, training in GIS, the ability to analyze and interpret laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and essential computer skills.

 

Wage and Employee Benefits

This is an exempt position, with a salary range expected to be $65,000-$75,000 based on demonstrated skills, experience, and education.
