Wastewater Assistant - Van Buren



The Wastewater Assistant is responsible for the daily operation of the facility and machinery in a safe and efficient manner. Work is performed under the direction of the Wastewater Superintendent.  Performs tests and understands treatment materials to ensure compliance with various State and Federal regulations and laws. Is responsible for the daily operations of the facility to ensure proper treatment of waste materials and efficient operation of facility machinery by making changes in operations. Assist in and is responsible for the maintenance of records on operations and test results. Assists in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all facility equipment and machinery. On call to respond to emergencies, breakdowns, and to fill absences in the facility staff.
The Wastewater Assistant should have thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct routine equipment malfunction; also, knowledge of basic machinery repair, thorough knowledge of State and Federal requirements as they relate to waste treatment, and the ability to work independently, making routine decisions on the operation of the treatment facility.

High school graduation and adequate experience in a treatment facility; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that satisfies license requirements.

Possess a Maine Wastewater Treatment Grade III Operator's Certification or be able to obtain a Class III Certification within the time frame and parameters specified by the Superintendent.

Must possess valid Class II motor vehicle operator's license.
