WATER RESOURCES MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Search Extended - The Water Resources section of the Department of Public Works has three (3) operations and maintenance (O&M) position openings. Current work schedule will be Monday thru Friday from 6:30 to 2:30. This position will have and perform a range of different responsibilities and tasks in order to successfully operate and maintain the water resources infrastructure for the City. The individual will support making operational checks and repairs on pump stations, combined sewer storage systems and process equipment; assists in the sewer and drainage system inspections using a variety of sewer-related equipment including advanced technology such as CCTV trucks, pole cameras, sewer level monitoring, and flow monitoring systems. Responsibilities may also include operating light and heavy machinery such as skid steers, plow trucks, Jet/Vactor trucks, street sweepers, loaders and excavators. A successful candidate will review drawings and plans in coordination with City archivists and GIS mapping specialists, monitor pump stations with SCADA systems; and track progress and tasks using advanced computerized maintenance management programs (CMMS) in coordination with compliance, asset management and engineering teams.
Requirements: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and other City staff; ability to meet and converse tactfully with the public; knowledge of Sewer Collections Systems and Stormwater Drainage Systems; ability to make out clear and accurate reports as required for work orders, operating records and accident reports. Ability to use City Works CMMS to plan, and record system maintenance; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, plans and records; knowledge of safety hazards and precautions associated with Wastewater construction and maintenance work; ability to assist in the maintenance of pumping station equipment and perform pumping station inspections; ability to work independently and make sound judgments; and knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods, materials and skills used in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.
Training and Experience Desired: Experience and knowledge of operating, maintaining, and rehabilitating sewer and drainage systems, demonstrated experience operating heavy machinery, construction and/or mechanical experience and familiarity with CMMS programs; High School graduation or GED; or any equivalent combination of experience and training; CPR and First Aid certification within first year; Completion of OSHA approved confined space training course within first year; Completion of OSHA approved work zone safety certification course within first six months.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Maine Class B driver's license (valid Maine Class A Commercial Driver’s License desired or have ability to obtain) and must have and maintain good driving record; ability to pass the New England Collection System II Certification within 24 months; must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment and pass federally mandated drug test. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Pay range starting at $811.20/week.
