Driver Operators provide critical and essential services for our community. They are responsible for the safe, skilled, and efficient operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment associated with snow removal, repair, maintenance, and construction of Town of Gorham roads, sidewalks, parks, and cemeteries. Driver Operators also perform general laborer functions such as patching roads, raking hot top, mowing grass, shoveling, cutting brush, and directing traffic. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma required. A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests are required. Prior experience in the operation of standard automotive equipment heavier than passenger vehicles required. Prior experience operating heavy equipment, such as tractors, loaders and backhoes preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Driver Operators must have the ability to work extended and on-call hours as needed, including nights, weekends and holidays, such as during and after winter storm events.
BENEFITS: The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals declining health coverage are eligible or a $1,500 annual medical buyout. In addition to a choice between two excellent health insurance plans, employees have access to dental, vision, medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, IRAs, tuition reimbursement, and more. The Town offers a 457(b) deferred compensation retirement plan with a 7.5% employer match after six months, as well as paid vacation and sick leave, 12 paid holidays per year, and the option to accrue overtime as comp time. Pay range for this position starts at $20.23 per hour. Salary depends on experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will be eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus.
