The Town of Brunswick Planning and Development Department is seeking an Environmental Planner to perform technical development review with an emphasis on environmental planning and regulatory compliance; serve as primary staff support to the Conservation Commission, Mare Brook Watershed Advisory Committee (temporary); serve as liaison to various organizations associated with the redevelopment of Brunswick Landing, including Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) and Brunswick Area Citizens for a Safe Environment (BACSE); serve as secondary staff support to the Planning Board, and other department-staffed committees as needed; conduct research and make recommendations for modifications, especially those pertaining to sustainable development and environmental protection and conservation, based on best management practices, to Department policies and the Town’s Zoning Ordinance and Map; create maps (via ArcGIS) and other visual exhibits, report writing, and other planning activities in support of the Department Director. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and knowledge of state planning laws with an emphasis on those pertaining to environmental planning and the monitoring, conservation, and/or preservation of natural resources and wildlife habitat.
This is a key staff position and a challenging opportunity in a fast-paced work environment, utilizing skills in the areas of detailed coordination, facilitation, and project management. Technical expertise in land use and natural resource planning required. This position will require making public presentations, strong and detailed writing skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills to assist our Town into the future.
The Environmental Planner generally possesses a master’s degree in environmental science, planning, or a closely related field and at least two (2) years of experience in the environmental science / planning profession. A bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional planning experience may substitute for a master’s degree. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred, but not required.
The full salary range for this position is $69,152 to $89,818. The starting pay will be pursuant to qualifications and budgetary allowance.
