The Town of Sabattus has an immediate opening for a highly motivated full-time Sergeant to join our growing team of law enforcement professionals. Located between Lewiston and the Brunswick area, Sabattus is a rural community encompassing 29 square miles with a population of 4,900+ residents. Sabattus Police Department offers 24/7 coverage and is an energetic, community-oriented agency focused on professionalism and “esprit de corps”. Our officers work the 12-hour rotating schedule with every other weekend off. SUMMARY OF POSITION The Sergeant’s responsibilities, in addition to the duties of a police officer, include overseeing a growing patrol force, enforcing agency policies and regulations, and providing instruction, support and assistance to officers with incidents and investigations during the afternoon/evening hours. The Sergeant will be engaged in active patrol duties, serve in an administrative function as well as perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police. This position is an afternoon/evening shift assignment. All duties are to be performed while engaging the community in a positive and professional manner. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Candidates must be highly motivated, progressive individuals with experience in managing patrol officers as well as carrying an active caseload. Preference is given to graduates of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP) and First Line Supervision Course or a concentration of schools and training regarding investigating crimes. The Town of Sabattus offers a comprehensive benefit package with competitive pay. The Town Manager has the discretion to lateral transfer employees in at the eight (8) year step $32.09 per hour and may include accrued paid time off. Additionally, $650 uniform allowance, $360 uniform maintenance, Paid Time Off, thirteen (13) paid holidays, MPERS (25 years at two-thirds), ICMA Retirement (town will match up to 12.8%), Health/Dental/Vision Insurance, Income Protection and Flexible Health Spending.
