Gardiner Public Works - Buildings & Grounds Maint. Assistant

The City of Gardiner’s Building and Grounds Department is seeking a Maintenance Assistant. This is a full-time year round position with full benefit package including retirement.

Duties include: spring/summer/fall maintenance of parks and athletic fields and custodial work for Gardiner City Hall.   Ground maintenance involves mowing grass, inspect/wash/paint/repair athletic fields, planting trees/shrubs/flowers, seeding, fertilizing, watering, and pest/weed control. Winter maintenance includes snow removal, snow shoveling, snow blowing and spreading deicing material as needed.

Building duties include: minor building maintenance, sweeping, vacuuming, mop/shampoo/steam carpets, buffing floors, and trash removal, clean/sanitize restrooms, wash windows/walls and all other aspects of a custodial position.

Position requirements: Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in maintaining athletic fields, municipal grounds along with interior cleaning equipment used in custodial responsibilities. Candidate will need to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under adverse climate conditions and be available to work some nights, weekends and holidays as city events require with limited supervision and be courteous with the public and city employees. Must possess a valid Maine driver’s license and have demonstrated a good driving record. The City of Gardiner is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes all inquiries. Desirable experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program.
