Barron Center - Nutrition Services 

The Barron Center is owned and operated by the City of Portland and is Maine’s largest skilled nursing facility. Now is your chance to have the job you always wanted - being a part of a team that makes a difference in the lives of our Residents.  Must have knowledge of basic food preparation, knowledge of proper sanitation practices and regulations; must be a team player; must be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift large stock posts, mixing bowls, etc.; must be able to withstand temperature changes (i.e., warm kitchen into walk in coolers or freezers). 

Pay range starting at $32,078/year – CEBA Union - Grade 5.  In addition to the standard rate of pay listed, the Barron Center is distributing an additional $5.00 for each hour worked until December 30, 2022 for all employees.  The Barron Center has received CARES ACT funding, through the State of Maine, which is intended to go back into the workforce, to help with retaining and recruiting employees. Located just off I-95 and city bus stop at entrance for easy access to work.  Paid Weekly.  Exceptional benefits add to the overall compensation package:  Health Insurance ($0 premium upon completion of basic wellness credits), $400 Individual deductible-Maximum annual out of pocket $1500, 90% coinsurance after deductible, No charge PCP visits, $20 Specialist and Urgent Care copay.   Choice of 2 retirement plans with 7.5% employer contribution.  13 1/2 paid holidays.  2 weeks paid vacation accrued weekly first year.  Paid sick leave.  HealthCare Flex spending accounts to reduce taxes.  Dependent Care Flex spending account to reduce taxes.  Union representation for negotiating pay increases.  Employee Referral Program - $1000 paid for successful referral.  Tuition reduction agreement with USM and Thomas College.  Optional dental, vision, life and short-term disability insurance. 

Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; must possess valid Maine Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain within first six months of employment; must be able to follow oral and simple written instructions. The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment physical exam. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
