Active Shooter, Practical Personal Defense and Understanding Violence
Presented by former police officers now running a company called Blue-U Defense, this course on “Surviving the Life or Death Gap,” starts with building a necessary foundation and establishing a high level of understanding of what we face during an unplanned incident of violence, and how our natural reactions affect our ability to respond. This session will also address how to recognize signs of violence in advance and how to become proficient in de-escalation techniques. These skills are critical as they can be the most important factors in either calming or fueling anger levels. Joe and Terry will also teach practical personal defense skills that will help prepare you for an incident of violence primarily through awareness, avoidance, and mental strength building.
Who should attend: This session is aimed at municipal employees at all levels. Everyone, from elected officials to newly hired staff, should consider attending. Important note: This is NOT about police tactical response. It IS about general workplace safety.
